Treehouses

Yuquiyú is a rustic retreat in the foothills of Puerto Rico’s El Yunque rainforest. We are a glamorous camping, or “glamping,” destination that offers artisan-crafted treehouses with a balcony, designer furnishings, a granite kitchenette and a slate bath. Surrounded by a tropical garden with a cascading river, each treehouse has an iconic view of El Yunque Peak. To enjoy the trade winds, singing tree frogs, river and moonlight, leave the windows and balcony doors of your treehouse open at night. Welcome to nature!

La Cara de Indio

Named after a Taino petroglyph
Within a mango grove, La Cara de Indio (The Indian Face) is named after a Taino petroglyph not far from the property. The treehouse features 144 square feet of interior space and an 84-square-foot balcony overlooking a panorama of El Yunque rainforest. Below the main level and reached by a short path from the entry is a 90-square-foot, private bath that offers a slate interior, high-end fixtures and a rain shower with a similar view of the rainforest.

La Cascada

Named for the cascading river below
Within a grove of Royal Palms and vanilla orchids, La Cascada (The Cascade) is named for the cascading river below. The treehouse features 121 square feet of interior space and a 240-square-foot balcony. The view of El Yunque rainforest and the river is majestic. Below the main level and reached by a stairway from the balcony is a 81-square-foot, private bath that offers a slate interior, high-end fixtures and a rain shower with an equally spectacular view.

El Mirador

Named for its view of the rainforest peaks
Perched high above an outcropping of boulders, El Mirador (The Lookout) is named for its view of the rainforest peaks. The treehouse features 144 square feet of interior space and an 84-square-foot balcony with a commanding view of El Yunque rainforest. The private bath is on the main level and is reached by a footbridge from the balcony. It offers a slate interior, high-end fixtures and a rain shower with an equally commanding view of the rainforest.

El Amor

Named for the love that moves the sun and the other stars
Surrounded by heliconias, El Amor (Love) is named, as Dante wrote, for “the love that moves the sun and the other stars.” The treehouse features 169 square feet of interior space and two 98-square-foot, covered balconies, one with an emblematic view of El Yunque rainforest. The private bath is on the main level and is reached by a footbridge from the entrance balcony. It offers a slate interior, high-end fixtures and a rain shower with a rainforest view. El Amor is under construction and is not available.

Garden

A god & his sacred gardens
The rainforest was revered as a sacred site for over a thousand years by the prehistoric Taino natives. They believed that Yuquiyú, the god of light and life, dwelled on Yuqué (“The White Land”), the cloud-covered peak now known as El Yunque. “Yuquiyú” also meant a natural place so beautiful they could feel the presence of their god. In that spirit, we have spent more than a decade creating a three-acre garden with vistas that could have inspired a Chinese landscape painting. Tropical plants and a thousand palms provide beauty and shade from a brilliant sun, while blossoms of ylang-ylang perfume the air. Gentle trade winds, the sound of the river and singing tree frogs create a peaceful and enlivening ambiance. Most of all, Yuquiyú is about tranquility — you can watch clouds swirl around the rainforest peaks, take a walk in the woods, meditate by the river, rejuvenate in a natural pool, be enchanted by the moon and contemplate the starry night. Too bad Ponce de Leon didn’t look for the Fountain of Youth right in his own backyard … he might have discovered Yuquiyú!

Cuisine

What can we pick for you?
Inspired by our profound respect for nature, we have reimagined the property’s century-old agricultural terraces as an organic farm. Blessed by the Caribbean sun and rains, its cornucopia of tropical crops are transmuted into delicious, plant-based fare through our chef’s alchemy. From the day’s harvest, he might prepare a banana or papaya smoothie and an appetizer of home-made hummus or bruschetta, followed by traditional, Puerto Rican pasteles cooked in a banana leaf, a lentil burger with sweet plantain topping or rotini with sautéed portobellos, basil sauce, pine nuts and avocado slices. Side dishes might include turmeric rice with pigeon peas, breadfruit tostones or a salad of just-picked vegetables. In his kitchen, Huerto Escondido (Hidden Orchard), each night’s menu is unique. Make your dinner reservation when you reserve your treehouse or add a dinner at least two days in advance. Reservations are only available for guests of Yuquiyú.

Everything was perfect! The staff is amazing and tends to your every need! The views are stunning! It was secluded enough to feel like you are on your own island and close enough to enjoy the trails. The staff directed us to the best food, and areas to see. The accommodations are everything we were looking for!

Wow what can I say. This place is paradise. It really feels like you are on your own in the middle of nowhere. We loved the little creek a few minutes walk from the treehouse. The treehouse was finished to a very high standard and the views were stunning. The food at the vegan restaurant was so fresh and tasty. Big shout out to Mani who looked after us so well.

Everything about Yuquiyú is outstanding. From the first time I called and talked to Martin, the informative and welcoming emails, the arrival and greeting from Manny and Kelvin, the food, the cleanliness and ambiance of the room, the views, the green lizards, the creek, the trails, the sound of the rain, the breakfast, the coffee, the memory-foam pillows, the shower, the variety of flowers, bromeliads and fruit trees, the dark starry nights... I surprised my husband with a two-night stay (our treehouse was La Cascada) and we were blown away by the experience. We are both from Puerto Rico and familiar with its beauty, and yet we've never had such a mystical experience in the island. As a previous reviewer said, JUST GO!

Our experience at Yuquiyu was spectacular and we will remember our time there forever. If you are wanting to experience Puerto Rico away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and yet still be close enough to do everything, I would highly recommend it. I cant thank the staff enough for making us feel at home.

We stayed in an adorable cabana at Yuquiyu. It rains a lot in the rainforest and pretty much rained the entire time we were there. With each rain storm, we would have to close all the doors and windows or everything gets wet. It was a disappointment because the views are simply breathtaking.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and loved everything about it from the spectacular views to the plant-based dinner. We stayed in the La Cascada treehouse and it is probably the most private one. It has amazing views of El Yunque and you can hear the sound of the river below. The shower has the most amazing views of the rainforest and was a highlight of staying in the treehouse. We also had dinner one night and it was the best food we had on our trip to Puerto Rico. The treehouse also comes with a lot of nice little touches like coffee, nuts, lemonade, fresh fruit and coconut milk in the fridge. It was the perfect romantic stay, and I wish we could have stayed longer!

We loved everything about Yuquiyu! The location is absolutely gorgeous, the staff were amazing, and the guest houses were perfect! We loved being able to eat fresh fruit from the rainforest, take a shower surrounded by nature, wake up with the sunshine, and fall asleep with the sounds of coqui frogs and other rainforest creatures. We were so relaxed and our only wish is that we would have been able to stay longer. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

I feel so lucky to have been able to stay at such a special place. Yuquiyu is such a gem and we plan to return again within the year. The fresh air and being surrounded by life is truly healing. This is not a place for folks who want TV, a spa and staff waiting on you hand and foot. This is truly a retreat, where you and your loved one can fully be present. Falling asleep to the noises of the rainforest, fresh fruit, taking open air showers and noting the biodiversity as you walk to the private and clean river are memories I will treasure. Thank you so much to Martin who started this place, if it was not for being queer owned we may not have ventured into trying this spot out. Very inclusive and welcoming.
Shout out to Manny and Fiya for an amazing private meal!

Put briefly, this place is magical. The grounds are surreally beautiful, the treehouse we stayed in (El Mirador) is well-appointed, and the staff is awesome. (Manny gets a special shout-out for being such a wonderful host.) This definitely isn't an upscale hotel--as in, there are bugs and other wildlife in the living space--but if you are OK with that, this place is pretty much unbeatable. And if you are a nerdy bird-watcher like me, you'll be in heaven. We saw many endemic species--the tody, the Puerto Rican woodpecker, etc.--right from our balcony. And we even had a visitor (the banaquit) inside!

We stayed in Yuquiyu for eight nights. Every day I've learned to appreciate the place more and more. Yuquiyu is lovingly and responsibly planned and managed. I genuinely consider myself privileged being one of the maxima of 6 guests that stay at a time at Yuquiyu.
The treehouses are surrounded by carefully cared for rainforest that increases the privacy of each cabin. It is a multisensory magical experience with the colors, the sounds, the textures, the tastes, the smells all engaged. We were outside for 24 hours, with windows and doors to the terrace always open. Our gentle visitors were salamanders, geckos, and birds.
The place is safe, clean, and well cared for by the staff. Manny and Fiya respond to every request with beautiful and warm attentiveness. We had three dinners - each delicious and satisfying. We never run out of fruits, snacks, coffee, and all breakfast needs.
Yuquiyu looks beautiful in photographs, but nothing prepared me for the amazing experience. I hope to come back.

Just came back from staying in the cabin, my partner and I travel a lot for work and we both agreed almost immediately that this had to be the best place we have ever stayed in our lives. The view from the balcony is breathtaking and being surrounded by all the beauties of nature, sound, smell and noises. Earnest the owner was very helpful ahead of our trip and very kind and was treated by Manny who welcomed us was very kind. Watching the sunrise with all the breakfast provisions before our morning swim in the river was another highlight. Look forward to getting back here ASAP!!

When staying here we immediately realized it’s not a hotel but a blissful life changing experience. We soaked up every bit of its wonders. I hope I take some of its beauty and peace with me wherever I go. Food was fulfilling and healthy, adding to the experience. I recommend eating on here so you can walk back to your treehouse along the softly lit gardens under the night sky. We will be back.

Yuquiyu and Puerto Rico both exceeded our expectations. (Although, given the generally rave reviews, I did have high expectations of Yuquiyu), Our "treehouse" was as beautifully appointed as a fancy hotel: cherry cabinets, granite countertops. Manny and Faya put their hearts and souls into caring for this place, and it shows. We felt very warmly welcomed, and will definitely return.

This place is simply amazing. I would have stayed here for my entire week in Puerto Rico if I had known. If you love nature, beauty, the rain forest, excellent food, and amazing rustic accommodations, then this place for you. Super happy and can’t wait to come back!
