Its award winner architect has come up with a design, for a luxury, yet easy-going, country home that combines traditional elements, (like wide stone walls, exposed wooden beams), with modern ones (like folding glass panels, interior light wells, lookout decks at each floor) to offer residents the sense of being secure and cosy, while open to enjoy the panoramic views and the docile Cretan climate – the best there is! Standing on its 2000 m2 of olive groves, with 12 x 3,5 m private pool, the villa is located at an idyllic countryside spot of Nea Kydonia, from where it’s just 10 min drive to Chania town, and 800 m to Kalamaki’ sea, with many sandy beaches nearby.

What previous guests have loved most was the feeling of spaciousness, the communication and free lines of vision that the light wells allowed, the opportunity to enjoy being outdoors at the patio, the dining terrace and the pool, the décor’s equilibrium of earthly colours and materials with aluminium and modern fitting.
Accessible features:: Step free entrance to main floor. Wide entrance doors, all doors 75-90 cm wide, Bedrooms with room to manoeuvre. Twin beds can be made 45 cm high. A cargo lift (80cm X 110cm) gives access to all floors, but it's permitted to be used only to facilitate guests with mobility problems at their or their guardians' responsibility. There are two accessible bathrooms. One in the main floor with an accessible sink, 45cm high toilette and accessed by a ramp 0-12 cm high. Its bath-lid is 53cm high and it has a portable bath seat. Alternatively can be used as a shower room. And one in the ground floor (roll in shawer), 45cm high toilette, gripping bars, adjustable shower-height.; All entrances are step free. Step free access to the pool. Accessible open air cinema in the garden by the pool .

The Design of the House

The villa’s unique style has been designed by Varoudakis Aristomenis, a professor and renowned, award winner, architect. He has envisioned a luxury, yet easy-going, country home that combines traditional elements, (thick stone walls, wooden features), with modern ones (folding glass panels, interior light wells, lookout free-standing decks at each floor) achieving a perfect balance of the exterior with the interior environment.

Characteristics

Standing on its own hectare of olive groves not only blends in, it enhances the area’s character. With its 6 bedrooms - 5 bathrooms it can sleep comfortably up to 12 adults / 10 adults + 5 children.

The 3,5 x 12 m pool and the table-tennis will keep the more energetic happily occupied, while the others can lay back till the special, relaxing atmosphere of the place and the sun restore their energy.

The Exterior

Located in its own hectare of olive groves, it is surrounded by mellow, unspoiled countryside and offers peaceful rural and sea views. From its most unique feature, the open tower’s decks, you can have your evening drinks while watching a spectacular sunset and then dine at the terrace making the most of Crete’s idyllic climate, the best there is!

The Interior

Extremely spacious inside, it allows unobstructed lines of vision. The decoration balances earthly colours and materials with aluminium and modern fittings. Full furnished terraces and verandas, the owner’s paintings and family antiques combine to produce a home away from home!

Best suited for:

It is mostly preferred for family reunions, sojourning with friends and theme groups for its privacy, spaciousness and the numerous gorgeous near-by beaches.

How do parts connnect

There are no inside stairs from the main floor to the ground floor. But, one can go round the house on both directions either using ramps or through a corridor with 8 steps that connects the BBQ area with the ground floor’s main door.

It’s complicate to explain but self-evident and beautiful, once here!

Ramps around the tower

The ramp shown connects the BBQ with the terrace outside the kitchen and continues its slope for half the corridor, till the 8 steps and the entrance to ground floor's the central door.

BBQ area

The BBQ is at the northest part of the house. There is a big BBQ and a traditional oven. Kostas is (slowly) becoming good at cooking there. He can give you some useful tips if you want to give it a try!

Kitchen terrace

In front of the kitchen there is a wooden table that can seat up 10 -12 persons. Larger groups can add the extra table that can be seen at the left.

Main Floor's Deck

The tower forms two decks. The upper one is the group's relaxing area. The main floor's deck is perfect fo dinne al fresco!

Sleep one night outdoors!

Alter the use of a space and have an authentique experience you'll always remember. Choose a mild night and turn the upper deck sitting area to a sleeping one.
Use the cushions, pillows, rugs, candles, etc. that you'll find at the storage space and "treasures trunk" that has accumulated along the years.

Oriental Relaxing by the Pool!

Open Air Cinema

When the day is over you can turn the siiting by the pool to an open air cinema.

Rent or download a film
Roll down the screen,
Bring out the projector and the speakers
Plug them at your laptop and you are set!

Or have an outdoor videogame experience on the big screen!

Shaded Movable Kids' pool

The shallow part of the 12x 3,5 m pool is leveled at 60cm depth and a straight aluminium rail can been added to separate it from the rest of the pool, to protect small children. The rail can be removed if not needed.

This part is shaded by a reed roof that offers sun protection during midday, when the sun is to be avoided.

Prepare and share a meal

The Villa is not equipped just as a "holiday" house. You'll find all tools and appliances needed to prepare a nice diner. During the off season, we have friends coming almost every other weekend to share a traditional "Greek Sunday" meal. So we always add more to it. But if you spot something missing, while here, we'll do our best to provide it!

Cook Outdoors

You can use the traditional oven or the build BBQ to prepare and share a lovely meal with the members of your group. Kostas, our family's cook!, can share tips and show you how to heat and cook with the traditional oven.

Dine al Fresco!

Dining tables at the best spots allow you to choose where you will have your next meal!  Set your table by the pool - on the deck or on the terrace, using different cutlery, tablecloths or sous-plats, lights or candles to create a happy mood.

Enjoy your breakfast, meal or diner outdoors, and stay in the sun or in the shade - according to your wishes. That's a choice of importance when you stay at a place that enjoys such a lovely climate and so much sunshine.

Beautiful Close - by Sandy Beaches

Our villa is about 20' walking from some of the best sandy beaches in Crete! The importance of staying close to many lovely beaches is that on can always find some that are calm even in a rare windy day.

Just when you reach the sea is Porto Kalamaki, a tiny harbor that protects a few fishermen's dinghies with a 30 m beach that's a mixture of sand with pebbles.

On both sides - east and west lies many sandy beaches that each has it character and are worth visiting.

On the left, after Kalamaki harbor, it's Kalamaki resort with its tiny island, then Agii Apostoli and in the distance it's Chania town.

To the west lay Stalos,Agia Marina, Platanias ...  long sandy beaches, waterfront resorts with many Kiosks, clubs, watersports that offer lunch and kitchen variety.
