It’s a cosy & Austrian-style apartment surrounded by the most spectacular mountain panorama and only 200 metres to the Hochmaisbahn ski lift!

From the apartment, an array of wonderful mountain walks can be accessed in all directions and levels of difficulty. The apartment was refurbished in 2017 & maintaining the Austrian cosy style combined with a modern fit out.

 

The apartment consists of two double bedrooms with additional double sofa bed in the living room accommodating comfortable sleeping facilities up to 6 persons along free wifi & parking facilities. The living area has a terrace with resting facilities along wonderful views over the surrounding mountains and ski area.

 

The kitchen is fully equipped with the integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, oven & ceramic hob etc with a dining table that pulls out to accommodate 6 people within the living room area.

 

The apartment also offers a fully fitted modern bathroom with large bath and shower facilities, separate toilet with the additional washing facilities and own car garage.

 

The apartment building also has laundry and drying facilities and a heated ski and boot room.

Sauna facilities are available within the Sonnleiten Complex subject to advanced reservation.

We would like to present hereby our ”Sonnleiten Apartment” in Hinterthal – the definitely best location for our activities in winter and summer in the area of Hochkönig.


About Hochkönig – Hinterthal:
The Hochkönig “High King” ski area has a fantastic snow record and incorporates the villages of Hinterthal, Maria Alm, Dienten, Hintermoos & Muhlbach. Hinterthal is a great family ski resort with very few queues & a good choice of restaurants & apres ski. Wachtelhof apartment is walking distance from the Hochmais heated, six main ski lift which means you have 150km of runs into pretty villages with breathtaking scenery on your doorstep. With 52 easy runs, 83 intermediate and 15 difficult plus 4 ski parks and plenty of off-piste tree skiing & back bowls there is something to test all levels of skiers/ boarders. Ski schools locally are excellent. Along with skiing (day & night) in the winter the area offers tobogganing, cross-country skiing and sleigh rides.


When you need resting & refuelling, there are 37 mountain restaurants offering great quality local dishes at reasonable prices. Should you want to venture further afield, however, your ski pass covers the whole of the Ski Armada region! Situated in a traditional Austrian building in the centre of Hinterthal, the nearest lift is a few steps from the front door giving access to the Sonnleiten lift with a blue progression run which also links with the main lift out of the village giving access to miles of perfect tree-lined slopes covering a huge area. It is only 5 minutes walk to the bunny slope, ski school and hire shops etc, via a little bridge over the mountain stream. Whilst central, it is still very quiet at night and even with the windows open you only hear the stream bubbling along. There is a lovely walk along the stream up to the foot of the mountains with beautiful views and woodland.


Hinterthal is a fabulous village, very up and coming with a lot to offer in both summer and winter. All lift systems have recently been updated and service around 150km of the mountain range but without the queues. Lakes and waterfalls are in equal abundance. There is a large lido pool, golf course and tennis courts at Maria Alm a short drive away so always plenty to do.


You can find Thai, Chinese or McDonalds in Saalfelden, the nearest town as well as great supermarkets and clothes shops, 20 minutes drive (or bus) away. There is a good cross-section of ski runs into the village and cater for all abilities. Flights from the UK are only around 1.5 hours and transfers around an hour, so relatively little travelling time.


In addition to the obvious winter appeal, this is a fantastic area to visit in Summer. The scenery is simply stunning and with temperatures reaching 30 degrees during the day it is a haven for all who love the great outdoors. Maria Alm is a 10-minute drive away & offers the Urslautal championship golf course, tennis and a wonderful outdoor lido. Well-marked walking trails mean you can cover most of the area on foot or by bike & if you want more of an adrenaline rush the bike parks nearby offer much more of a challenge.


Worth Visiting – Hinterthal, Austria.


Hinterthal has a good selection of restaurants and bars and there is a bank with cash dispensers at the foot of the village. The ski hire shop opposite Haus Salzburg sells basic groceries. The ‘Umbrella Bar’ at the bottom of the black run on the base of the village is always a good place to stop and meet friends after a good days skiing and the last run down the Hochmais black piste. Very lively, with a smattering of Oomph music here and there for the Austrian touch.


Most hotels also have friendly and welcoming bars and restaurants to fall into at the end of a long day.
The Urslau & Spa hotel and spa at the foot of the village on the right has a large terrace to enjoy a beer in the sunshine.
Amelia’s Corner is an ultra-modern bar/restaurant with a varied menu to cater for all tastes with the definitely best ”goat cheese” started in the area.


The legendary ‘Alm Bar’ is situated in the centre of the village at the foot of the nursery slope- by far the liveliest place to be in Hinterthal if you fancy good knees up, with bands playing regularly and music into the early hours. If you miss a schnapps with the host, you have not explored the place good enough…

  • For bookings cancelled up to 14 calendar days before the start of the stay, traveller receives only 25% refund of payment.
  • For bookings cancelled up to 30 days before the start of the stay, traveller receives a 50% refund.
