Things here in the village are little quieter and a little greener. Our lodge is nestled on two acres of delightfully landscaped gardens, complete with a swimming pool, full service restaurant and a bar and lounge, all surrounded by fabulous flowers and beautiful birds. Even the stars are brighter at night.

Our 26 guest rooms are unique too. Our garden cottages are built in a traditional African- style by local craftmen and are decorated to reflect the many cultures of Tanzania, while our new pool-side apartments reflect a more contemporary Tanzanian comfort. Whether you are travelling as a couple, with friends, on your own, or with a family, we have a room to fit your needs. And better yet, they're affordably priced.

Our wildlife safaris are affordably priced too. We offer a wide variety of safari packages for a variety of travelers and budgets, and will work with you to create your own unforgettable Tanzanian safari adventure!

The other thing that sets us apart is our commitment to our community. We specialize in culture tourism. This means visitors can learn about our Meru way of life, while the proceeds from the tours go to support our local families. And when you stay with us, we donate a portion of our profits to one of the social projects sponsored by The Vijiji Foundation, our non-profit organization.

Guest Services

Let the experienced staff at the Vijiji Center help you make the most of your time in Tanzania. We're happy to arrange any of the following activities for our guests: airport transfers, taxis, trips to banks and ATMs, Arusha Town tours, cultural tours and walking safaris, outdoor activities, mountain trekking, and laundry services.

The Garden Cottages

Our six garden cottages are built in a traditional African-style by local craftmen and are decorated to reflect the many cultures of Tanzania. Each garden cottage has 2 separate rooms named after the animals you'll seee on safari. Each of the spacious rooms has a full bathroom (sink, toilet, shower, hot and cold water). All of the beds have mosquito netting and every room has free in-room coffee and tea and a private porch where you can relax and enjoy the surrounding gardens. The cottages can accommodate singles, couples, and /or families. All rooms have daily housekeeping and free Wi-Fi.

The Poolside Apartments

Our 12 pool-side apartments reflect a contemporary Tanzanian style and as the name suggests, are located next to our swimming pool. All rooms have a private bathroom (sink, toilet, shower, hot and cold water), double or twin beds with mosquito netting, free in room coffee and tea, and a private deck or balcony ideal for relaxing. These rooms are perfect for singles, couples and friends travelling together. All rooms have daily housekeeping and free Wi-Fi.

The Family and Friends Cottage

This two-room cottage is designed especially for families or for those travelling with a group of friends. It's named Tembo - Swahili for elephant, as elephants always travel in groups!

The largest room, Tembo 2, is a suite with two separate bedrooms (double or twin beds) and a full bathroom (sink, toilet, shower, hot and cold water) - perfect for those with younger children. Tembo 1 next door is another separate room, with double or twin beds, and its own full bathroom. All of the beds have mosquito netting and each room has free in-room coffee and tea. The cottage shares a common outside patio and is located near the pool. Daily housekeeping and free WiFi are provided.

The Restaurant, Bar, and Lounge

Our full-service restaurant overlooks the gardens and features traditional Tanzanian dishes prepared by our experienced chefs. All meals are prepared fresh daily and we use local, organic and free-range ingredients from the nearby markets whenever possible, another way we support the local community.

Typical breakfasts include fresh fruits in season, fresh fruit juice, free range eggs, breads, hot cereal, potatoes, and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. Lunches and dinners feature homemade soups, breads, a variety of freshly prepared vegetables, and traditional Tanzanian dishes. We can accommodate most dietary needs too-just ask.

Our dining room seats up to 50 people for meals, meetings, and special occasions, or for relaxing with family and friends.

With a view to the gardens, our spacious bar and lounge is the perfect place to chill, relive your day, meet other travellers and make new acquaintances. Enjoy a wide selection of Tanzanian beers, wines, mixed drinks and sodas, or sip a glass of spirits. Challenge your friends to a free game of pool and enjoy the true Tanzanian vibe. Or just catch up on the latest with our free Wifi.

The Gardens and Swimming pool

Our beautiful, landscaped gardens are the perfect place to relax and enjoy some quiet time. Chill in the shade or cool off with a splash in our swimming pool, open year-round. Or break out the binoculars and enjoy the bountiful bird life. In the evening when it's cooler, warm yourself by the bonfire. There is plenty of outdoor seating, and of course, a well-appointed bar that's open daily for snaks and beverages.
