The Tower House is not included for general use in the rental price. There is an option to use the Tower for unique entertainment experiences with something to suit everyone. For example “A night of Irish traditional music and dancing” “An Irish storytelling session with a Seanchai” “A period costume evening with banquet”  “ A whiskey tasting session at the upstairs bar” “ A Movie night”

You can experience these packages without having to leave the estate, meaning no need to rent a minibus to take the group out and no one has to drive and therefore everyone can enjoy a drink and/or relax without worrying about the journey back.  The Tower house is an incredible atmospheric space and the unique setting will make for great memories and stories to be told for years to come.

Exclusive castle hire

The castle sleep 15 people in 8 bedrooms, 7 of these bedrooms have king or queen beds (the green and grey rooms can be changed to two single beds )and there is one single room. All the rooms are furnished with family antiques and very comfortable beds. The beautiful drawing room off the main entrance is filled with antiques and works of art which make it a special place to sit and chat, and perhaps put another log on the open fire when it suits. The elegant large dining room with its rich red walls, and fine silver candelabra lighting up the large mahogany dining table, is a pleasure to dine in at night. The study is a cosy sitting room with leather sofas and open fireplace. It has free wireless internet access You will enjoy the large warm and welcoming kitchen with its “always on” 4 oven AGA cooking range. It is a comfortable room where you can relax while enjoying meal preparation.

On the premises are leisure facilities including a sauna for relaxation, full sized snooker/billiard table, table tennis, a hard court tennis court, boules, archery and our newly installed hot tub. When you choose Springfield for your exclusive Irish Castle stay you will enjoy its seclusion and tranquil grounds, and it is also ideally suited for day visits to the best attractions in South West Ireland.

The Rooms

The Baroness’s Room

The Baroness’s room with it’s rich colours and fabrics overlooks the lawns to the west of the castle. It has a 5ft (queen) half tester bed and an en-suite bathroom which has a gigantic bathtub with hand held shower.

The Baron’s Room

The Baron’s room is a beautifully light room with a 6 ft (king sized) four poster bed. The windows overlook the front of the castle with a great view of the mature trees (sometimes the herd of red deer can be seen grazing in the field) and along the avenue. It has a spacious en-suite bathroom with a walk in shower and a freestanding slipper bath as well as a sofa.

The Garden Room

The Garden room on the ground floor is a lovely airy room with a 5ft (Queen) bed. The beautiful fern pattern fabric in the curtains is taken from a design by the early 20th century American interior designer, Elsie de Wolfe. There is a very large en-suite tiled shower room suitable for wheelchair use. As the bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor it is well suited to guests with less mobility.

The Green Room

The Green bedroom can be made up for you as either a 6ft (king) bed or two single beds. The room overlooks the front of the castle grounds. The bathroom is situated just across the hall and is very large with a sauna and walk in shower as well as a very large bathtub. This spacious bathroom overlooks the courtyard.

The Oak Room

The Oak bedroom with it’s large and luxurious ornately carved antique 4 poster single bed is a pleasure to sleep in.

The Grey Room

The Grey bedroom, also at the front of the castle, is an elegant coloured room with a very high ceiling. This room can also be made up as either a 6ft (king)or as 2 single beds to suit your needs. It has its own shower, toilet and sink.

The Yellow Room

The Yellow bedroom is a cosy double room with a queen bed and lovely view

The Arch Room

Located over the archway into the courtyard, the arch bedroom is a charming retreat with slit windows and a 5′ queen bed. It has its own bathroom with bath and handheld shower.

The East Tower

The East Tower at Springfield castle has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and accommodates 10 guests. There are 4 double rooms and one twin single bedded room. Approaching the castle up the 3/4 mile long avenue you will swing to the right as you approach and enter through an archway to a private courtyard with a wonderful fountain in the centre and encircled by the stone walls and buildings, some dating back to the Norman times in Ireland. There are magnificent stone steps leading to the front door of this private group accommodation

Inside is a bright welcoming hallway with classic black and white tiles. To your left are the cloakrooms and to your right the delightful dining room with beautiful old pine floor, and vast curved windows with a view of the Norman Tower House. The dining table can seat up to 25 people. The Kitchen is large, stylish, and modern, but with a flagstone floor and a table that seats 12. The underfloor heating keeps the room warm and welcoming all day. The kitchen door leads out onto a large patio facing west with barbeque and herb garden and a fire pit. It is a lovely area to sit on a sunny evening. Upstairs the huge living room is elegantly and comfortably furnished. It has WIFI access. Downstairs there is an amazing basement room, which we call the “pub” although it’s up to you to stock it with beverages!  We can supply with your own keg of Guinness. It features stone walls built on to the foundation rocks hewn from the limestone hill on which the castle stands. A great room for a party! It has a solid oak medieval style castle door leading to a private garden.

The Rooms

The Clock Suite

The clock suite is on the first floor leading off the long sitting room. It has two bedrooms one is a large double room with a 5′ queen sleigh bed and colonial travel trunk furniture. The other room has two single beds. These share a lovely bathroom with a generous bathtub and a luxurious walk in rain shower. Built in the walls of the old clock tower in the courtyard the bathroom features a double glazed window with a view of the clock works.

Tower Room 1

The first floor tower room features a fine brass 4 poster bed (5′queen) and has a lovely bathroom with a victorian style slipper bath with views over the walled gardens and courtyard fountain. It also has a large balcony overlooking the herb garden.

Tower Room 2

The second floor tower room is a french style room with a french (5′queen) bed and wardrobe and it also has a victorian style slipper bath. It looks out over the walled garden and on a clear day to the Galtee mountains.

Tower Room 3

The third floor room has a rich mahogany 4 poster bed(5′queen) and wardrobe and has a shower room with a vast walk in rain shower. The tower windows frame views to the woodland and courtyards. The room is light and airy with skylights in the ceiling.

The Castle Grounds

The estate has many ancient trees up to 400 years old. There are fields of quietly grazing deer and acres of woodland walks tempting you to explore. Springfield is a prime example of an Irish Castle with gardens. The organic farm, woods and gardens at Springfield are all yours to roam and in season you can enjoy a visit to the Victorian era walled garden with flowers, herbs, salads and vegetables produced for the Green Room Café, weddings and meals in Springfield

A tour of the farm with Jonathan on the tractor and trailer to meet the deer is a fascinating opportunity to see nature up close. Wildlife abounds at Springfield castle ground and the dawn chorus in spring and summer may be the loudest thing to disturb you. Walking through the woodlands and avenues you may be lucky enough to see some of the wildlife of Ireland. We have rabbits, foxes, badgers, squirrels, buzzards  and even barn owls! If the weather is fine, why not take a picnic or barbeque to a woodland clearing  or to the thatched gazebo in the woods and enjoy one of the timeless pleasures of country life. There are also large lawns beside the castle grounds for picnicking and play, we have goal posts for soccer matches !

Location and Attractions

There is a wealth to see and do in the region but as well as that we can organise activities on the grounds for you. Irish musicians, storytellers, falconry, boules, badminton, tennis, archery, table tennis, snooker/pool and a soccer pitch. The family dogs will also be sure to visit you everyday. If you do decide to venture out Limerick county is dotted with beautiful towns and villages and gives the visitor the perfect mix of city and country life. The attractions in Limerick county range from historic interest, River Shannon, Atlantic Ocean and world renowned golf courses. We are also ideally located as a base to tour all the best attractions such as Killarney, The ring of Kerry, cliffs of Moher, Wild Atlantic way, Dingle, Blarney, Cork When you arrive at Springfield Castle, Jonathan and Betty will welcome you, give you a brief explanatory tour and will be on hand to discuss touring ideas, and make recommendations to local pubs and restaurants. We can also recommend coach and mini bus hire for your day trips.

Our Castle is approved as a wedding venue by the HSE for civil weddings as well as wedding blessing ceremonies. While the castle and tower sleep a maximum of 25 guests with luxury accommodation, we can cater for up to 35 guests for a wedding dinner in the East Tower dining room but for larger weddings of up to 80(or people who prefer a less formal meal), guests can eat in the Green Room. Springfield Castle is a unique venue, exclusively yours to enjoy. There is no formula at Springfield and we can tailor make the wedding to suit the couple meaning each wedding is individual. Payment Policy
There is seasonal pricing at Springfield Low season is October to March excluding Christmas During low season we run weekly bookings from Saturday to Saturday or short stay breaks of 2/3 nights at any point in the week. In mid season(May, September) and high season(June, July, August) we only rent by the week and these bookings run from Saturday to Saturday Due to Covid we will be more flexible on dates in 2021.
