Beautiful Farmhouse Situated in Carlentini

Pietre di gelo' (Frosted stones) is the old name of this company, my grandmother inherited it from her mothe . It stood at the edge of the old quarter of San Lio and it was so dry that it was called, in Sicilian dialect 'Petruzze di Jelo' (frosted stones), but my grandmother did not like this name and renamed it: 'Virgin Mary', being very devout to her. Its current name is the old name translated into italian to make it understandable to non- Sicilians. The transformation of this company was a gift from my grandfather to my grandmother (he used dynamite to plant citrus trees), he also built the house, the stable, the warehouses and called specialized workers from Ragusa to take out the stones from the land and use them to build stone walls forming closed areas where cows could freely graze. Our agricultural and agri tourism farm also offers comfortable rooms for accommodation. You can spend a weekend here or, if you wish, an entire season!

Through our recent renovation, four bedrooms have been obtained out of the old barn, which is above ground level. Each room has its own bathroom, two rooms have their entrance on the main court, and two have their entrance from an external staircase, located on the West wing. Other two bedrooms are located on the ground floor, and have been constructed out of the old wagon and tool storage warehouse. These rooms share one bathroom, which is also accessible to individuals with limited mobility and wheelchairs. These rooms have two entrances, one on the main court and one on the West wing.

Rooms

Room 1 – North Twin
Can host a maximum of 2 people, includes a shared bathroom, accessible to individuals with limited mobility, WiFi and air conditioning.

This room is combined with Room 2, the South Twin, with which it shares a large, wheelchair accessible bathroom. It is originally a queen sized bedroom and the bed can be modified to two single beds, making a double room.The rooms is located on the ground floor and faces both the inside and outside of the main court.On the western wing you can find a private space, lifted off the ground level, and situated beneath an arbor. The room has very good light and ventilation. It can be occupied alone, though the ideal is for family use, together with its twin room.

In ancient times, this room was the tool storage warehouse room and, as was typical in manor farms, it did not have openings outside of the perimeter.

Each room has heating and air conditioning. There is no television. Internet connection is available in WiFi hotspots, in the common areas.

The structure has a large living area in which one can relax by reading, listening to music, or by simply admiring the scenery through the large glass window, facing east.

There is also access to a small kitchen in the owner’s residence, which can be used to prepare food, or warm up baby food.

Room 2 – The South Twin
La gemella a Sud
This room is combined with Room 1, the North Twin, with which it shares a bathroom. It is located on the ground floor and is accessible both from the inside and outside of the main court. On the Western wing, a private outdoor space is available. The room has very high ceilings and a large, glass arch, which was once an entrance for wagons, as, in ancient times, the room used to be the storage warehouse. The room is furnished as a queen sized room, but, upon request, it can be transformed into a double room, with two single beds. It can be occupied alone, though the ideal is for family use, together with its twin room.

Each room has heating and air conditioning. There is no television. Internet connection is available in WiFi hotspots, in the common areas.

The structure has a large living area in which one can relax by reading, listening to music, or by simply admiring the scenery through the large glass window, facing east.

Room 3 – L’Acquario
This room is beautiful and bright, has a private bathroom, and is furnished with a writing desk and queen sized bed. The room can also become a double room with two single beds. It is located on the first floor above ground level, and is accessible through the terrace on the Western wing. In the past it used to be the tool storage space, thus it was originally only accessible through the inside of the court. Throughout our recent restoration, the original access has been closed with a large glass window, thus creating the “fishtank” effect.

After the initial hours of the morning, when the large window is touched with the first light of dawn, the room is flooded all day by a wonderful indirect light, which makes the space ideal for reading or writing. For those needing darker light in order to rest well, the curtains are well darkened.

The Western terrace, shared with Room 4, offers an exceptional view on the citrus groves, behind which there are spectacular sunsets.

Room 4 – The Alcove
The Alcove is a double room with single beds and a large private bathroom. It can also be used as a queen sized room by uniting the two single beds. The bed area has been obtained in an alcove and receives light from a skylight, which provides lighting in the room along with the glass doorway that faces West. It is located on the first floor above ground, next to the Fish Tank room, with which it shares the terrace facing West that offers an exceptional view on the citrus groves, behind which there are spectacular sunsets.
This accommodation, combined with the Fish Tank room, can be comfortable for couples of friends or families who want to stay in rooms adjacent to each other.

Room 5 – The Central Room
This room has also been obtained on the first floor above ground, in what was once the old barn. It does not have a private outdoor space, but it is large and bright, with one view on the internal court and one on the Southern plaza. It has a private bathroom and is furnished with a queen sized bed and a full sized sofa bed. Without furnishing changes, except for the opening of the sofa bed, the room can easily be used as a queen sized room, a double room of two single beds, or a triple room. Access to this room is through the “wisteria stair”, which is located at the far end of the main court. It has a an anteroom entrance, which is shared with Room 6.

There is no television. Internet connection is available in WiFi hotspots, in the common areas.

Room 6 – The Loft
This open space includes a large part of the original old barn, which is above the stable. It is a very large space, with a glass window that overlooks the Southern plaza, a window that faces East, and two windows that face North. The furnishings include a desk, a dresser, a queen sized bed, and two large sofa beds, which makes the room usable in several different variations, from a single room to a four bed room. It is a highly comfortable and welcoming accommodation, it includes a private bathroom with an anteroom, and the details are well finished, as in all the other rooms. Access to this room is through the “wisteria stair”, which is located at the far end of the main court. It has a an anteroom entrance, which is shared with Room 5, the Alcove.

Each room has heating and air conditioning.

There is no television.

Internet connection is available in WiFi hotspots, in the common areas.
