Location

Loughbrickland village is located 11 miles north of Newry and 1.5 miles south of Banbridge, Co. Down, just off the main A1 route which links Belfast (27 miles) and Dublin (73 miles). It is beside a large spectacular circular lake whose focal point is a ‘crannóg’ or artificial island originating as a place of refuge and retreat from potential invaders in Celtic times. Its position has been strategic since earliest times on this main north-south route which ran originally from Tara, Co. Meath, site of the court of the High Kings of Ireland, to the north coast.

Its situation ensures that the village enjoys the best of both worlds – a sense of rural calm and tranquillity, but also easy access not only to major centres of commerce and employment ( for example, Banbridge and Newry) but also to places of major interest to the visitor as diverse as the cathedral city of Armagh and the Mourne Mountains.

We stayed here as a group of friends for a wedding nearby. Our late check in was no problem, and we got a full run down of the house, which is amazingly decorated and very comfortable indeed. Nothing was too much trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

We had a great stay at Coolnacran. The place was spacious, comfortable, warm and quiet - and had everything we needed for our stay. Highly recommend the loop walk near the house!

A beautiful coach house with modern and comfortable touches. The rooms were lovely with en suites and everything was lovely and clean. We were left a basket with jam and marmalade, this also included tea bags and other bits to make settling in a little easier. There is a walk nearby, and although we didn't have time to do this on this visit, it'll definitely be top of the list for next time. Easy to find and close to main roads. We will definitely be booking next time we visit our family.
