A comfortable former industrial hangar nestled in the magnificent Tuscan countryside. A very special place with a stunning view of the medieval ruins of the castle of Montelifré, only 2 km from the small village of Montisi, located in the municipality of Montalcino: this was originally the Art Hangar…Now it is so much more!! Built in the late sixties and then transformed into a studio by the great Austrian sculptor Reinhold Traxl in 1999… it was then that the real story of Hangar began.
Traxl being not only an artist but also an innovative architect, teamed up with his friend Peter Thurner, an Austrian architect, to conceive a system of “modules”, or units, made of immense sliding walls-windows that can open or close, through a system of guides, and shade the loft by means of steel grids. A very modern concept which allows the glorious countryside to be present within the large rooms of the apartment, creating a unique living condition for the guests of the Art Hangar, whatever the weather conditions (too much sun, rain, …)

For dreamers

This is a very rare example of modern and visionary architecture in Tuscany, a contemporary interpretation of living in this region that not only respects the beauty of nature, but pays homage to it. In 2103 Traxl sold his ‘atelier-house’. The new owner, a free spirit, has seamlessly carried on with the project started by Reinhold, faithful to his vision. Thus today, Art-Hangar remains the home of choice of artists, dreamers, experimenters, architects, all who want to step away from the beaten path.

From a project started by the famous Austrian sculpture, Reinhold Traxl and his wife Astrid, we have developed a modern 220 m² loft. The Tuscan landscape and surrounding private garden are harmoniously integrated into the interior through the immense glass walls. Central to the living area is an open fireplace, an arresting modern creation by Australian artist David McKee.

Design furniture, a fully equipped kitchen and a private wine cellar make this 220 m² space a vibrant, but at the same time, relaxing place with Nature on display from all sides through the glass walls. Two bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom complete with rain showers and completely air conditioned, are suited to accommodate 4 guests.

Both bathrooms have access to a big bathtub and an outdoor shower. The infinity pool has its own private bathroom, located inside the former electricity tower. Nearby is a former naval container that houses a sauna and a terrace in front of it from which guests can enjoy breathtaking views of nature around as well as impressive views of Montelifré.

Design furniture and contemporary art sculptures are to be found everywhere around the hangar and close to the beautiful 20 metre long infinity swimming pool in the extensive gardens. In the open space, next to the loft, one can organise a (business) meeting, a disco partie or …just hang around… A washing machine and dryer are also available.

Payment Policy
While we maintain our existing high standards of cleanliness through this time for all our villas or apartments, we have increased our disinfecting procedures with government approved cleaning products. We’re encouraging our guests and employees to exercise recommended social distancing practices. We’re actively monitoring the situation and following the guidance, information, protocols, and tools from government authorities and The World Health Organization to maximize the effectiveness of our response. After each stay and before every arrival of new guests, villas and apartments are completely disinfected with ozone as well (an extra precaution to remove eventual virus and bacteria). All our employees have a HACCP diploma (so already trained for respecting correct hygienic situations), and in these days every one of them is trained with an extra anti covid-19 course. On request, your breakfasts, eventual lunches or dinners can be delivered directly in your villa or apartment as well, all in maximum respect of hygiene and safety. If you want to cook yourself, you will find a complete disinfected and sanitized kitchen at your disposal on arrival. If you don’t want to leave your villa at all, we can pre-stock the villa with the shopping list you send us in advance and even do your shopping during your stay.
Cancellation Policy
“Standard Rate” cancellation policy In case there still should be covid-19 travel restrictions or problems at the moment of your trip, we will submit a voucher for the amount already payed, to be used within 24 months from that date. In all other cases, cancellations till 30 days before arrival, have a penalty of 30% from the total rent. From 30 days to day of arrival, reservations become not refundable for the complete amount. We will always submit a voucher valid for 24 months, for down payment as for full amount, with a valid reason for not travelling., “Standard rate” payment policy 30% of the booking amount will be charged at the time of booking. The balance of 70% will be required 30 days before the check-in date. We strongly recommend to use our ‘besafe rate’ included a travel insurance on all reservations you make.
