Description
This is a typical Portuguese schist house, that has been lovingly restored from a ruin, which has two bedrooms, a kitchen/lounge and modern bathroom. This house has a lovely veranda overlooking the terraces and stream which runs through the bottom of the property.

The space

This house is situated further down the mountain from our other house, Quinta da Castanha. It is totally separate and private and can be rented for 4 people but also offers opportunities for larger families (up to 8) to holiday together renting both houses.

Guest access

Guests will have complete access to the house with a lounge/kitchen that has a woodburner on the ground floor. The kitchen area has a cooker, microwave, washer and fridge. The upper floor has 2 double bedrooms and a bath room. Outside is a verandha overlooking the grounds. A wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and relax amongst nature.

Other things to note

The house is situated at the top of the mountain and is surrounded with ample grounds to explore. Be aware that suitable footwear is advisable. There is plenty of car parking in front of the house. The road from Dreia village to the house is a rural track but is accessible by all cars. We would like to inform guests that the rural track has some tight bends and narrow parts so please take your time when driving up and down to the house. (The owner is improving the track at the moment) Vehicles with very low suspension may struggle.

Where you’ll be

Just 15 mins away from the house and the village of Dreia is the town of Coja which has restaurants, bars, shops, bank, post office, supermarkets and a river beach. While away the time in the atmospheric square and enjoy the wonderful coffees and pastries Portugal has to offer. Further afield you will find Arganil and Tabua which have larger supermarkets, shops and restaurants. Arganil has a local market every Thursday. Tabua has a farmers market every Sunday where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat,fish cheese, and bread. It is also a social meeting place for locals and they do fantastic BBQ chicken lunches with wine at a very reasonable price or you can buy your meat in the market and they will BBQ it for you. The historic town of Oliviera is 25 mins away or spend a day out exploring the ancient university town of Coimbra.

Getting around

A car is essential for you to experience the amazing sites of Central Portugal. Nearest Airport is Porto. It is 2 hrs drive on very good roads. If coming by road directions are available. A private taxi service can be arranged at the time of the booking at discount rate.

Espaço ideal para quem procura um refúgio junto da natureza. Casa conforme o descrito no anuncio, cama confortável, bons terrenos para passear, e relativamente perto das aldeias de Xisto. Sem supermercados perto (é aconselhavel levar mantimentos) e com acessos pouco facilitados.

Foi um encerrar de 2020 nesta estadia Maravilhosa. O Jonh e a sua esposa foram super atenciosos, sempre disponíveis . A casa é um charme para quem procura uns dias de descanso , isolados da confusão da cidade .

Casa lindíssima, acolhedora, num sítio idílico. O grande inconveniente é o acesso para a casa: peçam a quem vos levar lá da primeira vez para ir devagar e com calma (coisa que não nos aconteceu e o trajeto foi algo stressante). Mas depois de algumas idas e voltas uma pessoa habitua-se. Ainda assim recomendo não levarem carro com chassis baixo. E levámos para casa algumas arranhadelas no carro (ou seja, se o vosso carro é o vosso bem mais precioso, pensem duas vezes antes de escolherem este alojamento). O fato de a casa estar isolada é um pau de dois bicos: por um lado um contexto maravilhoso, noites de céu estrelado, silêncio e muitos sons de fauna... por outro lado acessos muito maus e falta de rede (há um pequeno sinal wifi intermitente)...

I had a wonderful 6 days in Maggies Dreia house. If you are looking for a very private place in nature this is your house. The house is also brandnew, spacious and with a fire place that can heat up the whole house. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, enough space for me and my daughters family. The owner of the house waited for me in Dreia to take my there and there was a bottle of wine, some snacks and other basics, very nice gesture. Besides my very positive experience with the wonderful location and house I only have one comment, it takes some courage to drive up a small and at some places a bit bumpy mountain road. But I have heard from the owners that they are working on that, Response from Maggie : Thanks Birgit. I hope to see you again soon in sunny Portugal.

If your are looking for an off the grid location where you can relax and simply enjoy the nature and the only sounds you hear most of the day are the sounds of birds and the creek nearby the house, this is for you. A place away from everthing. I had no cell reception and it was wonderfull. The road that takes you there is very tough. Bring supplies up if you don't want to take that road everyday. I recomend it for those who are looking for that kind of experience. The hosts Maggie and John are very sweet and kind and we loved them. And there are lovely river beaches nearby and the local folks very kind.Hope to go there some other vacation. Hope by then the creek is fuller than it was so we can take some dives and that the Presidente da Junta fixes the road up your house a little bite.

We loved staying at this beautiful place in top of the hill. Set in the beautiful, rural landscape and still having the comfort of modern amenities, is the perfect and enjoyable mix.
