Description
Quinta da Castanha Baralha is located in the beautiful countryside of the Serra do Acor, Central Portugal. A wonderful place to explore the traditional villages and river beaches and only 60 mins from the coast and 75 mins to the Serra da Estela mountain range. This charming home is situated high above the village of Dreia surrounded by a mixture of chestnut, oak, eucalyptus etc. A perfect place for walkers, bird-watchers or those who just want to get away from the bustle of everyday life.

The space

The views from the house are spectacular. If you want peace and tranquility, this is the place for you. The air is very fresh and in the morning all you hear is birds singing with a huge variety of birds to be seen. Everyday hawks fly very low in the afternoon and at night you can hear owls calling..............................................

Guest access

Guests will have complete access to the house with a very large double bedroom, large lounge with wood-burner and sofa bed for extra guests. The kitchen has all appliances including micro-wave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. The bathroom is equipped with a large shower. Outside there are numerous seating areas including a wooden patio on the front, area at the rear kitchen door and BBQ area to the rear with separate eating area.

Other things to note

The house is situated at the top of the mountain and is surrounded with ample grounds to explore. Be aware that suitable footwear is advisable. There is plenty of car parking in front of the house. The road from Dreia village to the house is a rural track but is perfectly accessible by all cars. We would like to inform guests that the rural track has some tight bends and narrow parts so please take your time when driving up and down to the house. (The owner is improving the track at the moment) Vehicles with very low suspension may struggle.

Where you’ll be

Just 15 mins away from the house and the village of Dreia is the town of Coja which has restaurants, bars, shops, bank, post office, supermarkets and a river beach. While away the time in the atmospheric square and enjoy the wonderful coffees and pastries Portugal has to offer.

Further afield you will find Arganil and Tabua which have larger supermarkets, shops and restaurants. Arganil has a local market every Thursday.

Tabua has a farmers market every Sunday where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat,fish cheese, and bread. It is also a social meeting place for locals and they do fantastic BBQ chicken lunches with wine at a very reasonable price or you can buy your meat in the market and they will BBQ it for you. The historic town of Oliviera is 25 mins away or spend a day out exploring the ancient university town of Coimbra.

Getting around

A car is essential for you to experience the amazing sites of Central Portugal. Nearest Airport is Porto. It is 2 hrs drive. On very good roads. If coming by road directions are available.

A private taxi service can be arranged at the time of the booking at discount rate.

Situé sur le haut d'une colline la maison joui d'une vue imprenable, elle est confortable, elle dispose de plusieurs espaces extérieurs ( 3 terrasses avec table, coin hamac, coin barbecue) très agréable. L' Anglais est indispensable pour converser avec la personne qui accueille, la région est magnifique et dispose de nombreuses plages aménagées au bord des rivières, dans les commerces avoisinants l'accueil est incroyable ! La région a brulée en Octobre 2017, beaucoup de traces subsistent mais nous avons passé un séjour très agréable.

Fantastic house - extremely comfortable and well-equipped - all rooms are much larger than you'd normally find in one of these houses. The track to the house is not for faint-hearted drivers but the reward is complete tranquility and abundant views. We would certainly stay there again!

We loved our vacations! It´s a great house to be in touch with nature and have some rest. Our hosts John and Shilu received us very warmly and the house has everything you need to spend your holidays there. The access can be a bit difficult but after a couple of tries it´s a peace of cake (we recommend a offroad vehicle but our city car did the job). The sightseeing once you reach the top is breath taking and perfect for relaxation. There are also many river beaches arround to discover and if you wish a more extreme adventures you can allways book with a local company (trails; rafting; rapell; cannyoning). The nearest village, Coja, has everything you may need. Overall a wonderfull experience!!
