History

It was in this parish that, in the first quarter of the 18th century, the Cabral de Moura e Horta family ordered the construction of Quinta do Paço, currently Palácio São Silvestre; With a privileged location in Largo do Terreiro, in the center of the parish of São Silvestre, the Palace is an imposing Baroque house, built in the 18th century; In 1730, the heir Francisco Cabral de Moura e Horta married Antónia Pereira Coutinho de Vilhena, and this union resulted in the coat of arms found on the main façade.

The Palace has an incomparable coat of arms of the Cabrals, Mouras, Coutinhos and Vilhenas (Gonçalves; Correia: 1947). Also noteworthy is the private chapel on the main floor, which at the time had a magnificent baroque carved altar and an altarpiece in polychrome limestone, designed by João de Ruão, dated 1544, with a representation of the Virgin and Child, seated in a chair with a high back, surrounded by angel musicians; It should also be mentioned that the stone altarpiece and the bas-reliefs originally integrated in the chapel of the palace were executed in the first half of the 16th century, about 150 years before the construction of the House, its origin is unknown, ie, not it is known whether the complex was part of a chapel that previously existed in that location, or whether they were acquired by the Cabral de Moura family after the building of the manor house.

But unfortunately the house would undergo several works and transformations in the following centuries, arriving at the end of the 20th century ruined in the interior space, however fortunately it was recovered, allowing everyone to discover this wonderful space... we would like to visit again as it was a particularly impressive 4* hotel. We had a deluxe double with large balcony and it gave off the feeling of cleanliness and total relexation (+the bed was probably 2metres wide). the attention to detail in the decorations is to be admired and there is an excellent atmosphere as soon as you walk in. All the staff we met were so helpful and particularly willing to accommodate our requests. I do hope they have sister hotels in Spain where we live, or at least in southern Portugal nearer to home for us. It is located less than 10 minutes easy drive along a quiet road from the motorway; well worth turning off the main road to experience the delight of this hotel.

Beautiful, well designed brand new hotel. Stylish, comfortable room. Stunning pool area with nice loungers etc. If it wasn't the time of COVID, the poolside bar would have been an added delight. Great staff. Lovely breakfast.

Fabulous conversion of an old palace, half way between Coimbra and the sea. No expense spared to make the rooms and facilities as comfortable and elegant as possible. Food was of the highest order.

A aimé · The staff tried their best either at the restaurant or at the reception to please us. We had lunch and dinner , the fish and the duck were excellent. I specially recommend the house cocktail with pieces of real fruits (Cocktail Sao Silvestre)

A very nice property in the silent and gorgeous location. It is 15km from Coimbra and makes a perfect relaxing spot after the whole day spent exploring the city. Food is very nice, rooms are exceptional!

The stay at this hotel was one of the best I have had in a while. Everything was perfect. Due to covid regulations in Portugal, there was the need to adapt the check-in and it took more time than expected. However, everything was handled very professionally and we were offered 2 free drinks for our trouble, which was really nice and attentive. The room was big, everything was clean, and nothing was missing. Really nothing to point out. In terms of outside facilities, we only used the pool, but there are also padel and tennis courts, which unfortunately we didn't have time to enjoy. The pool area is amazing, with a really nice view and plenty of space to lay, as well as a bar so you can enjoy a drink while at the pool. You can also request towels specifically for the pool, which is nice. Lastly, I couldn't finish without mentioning the breakfast. It is an amazing buffet, with plenty of choice - I just wished I had had a bigger stomach to try everything! This hotel is really new and has everything you need. You can see there is a great attention to detail and the staff is very nice. The value for money you get here is incomparable, you get a 5 star hotel experience with a more intimate feeling. I just wish we had stayed for longer.
