Description
The property has ancient origins, possibly from the 16th century. It is said that the name is associated with the extensive land with garden and cultivation area, all walled, or “fenced” with granite stone. This would have been an ancient property of illustrious lords, the last of them the Viscounts of Sortelha, known for their hospitality. The house would serve as accommodation for its guests, and later from the 40s/50s of the 20th century, it would become the home of tenant farmers. At the beginning of the millennium, the house underwent a first recovery intervention for tourist accommodation and, in 2020, it gained a new life, in terms of the structure and the entire surroundings, to receive, in a differentiated way, our visitors.

This Rural Tourism House (TER) has six rooms, with capacity for 12 people, and you can rent the whole house or just the rooms you need.

On Floor 0, you will find the common room with television and fireplace, the entrance hall, the reception, the fully equipped kitchen with all appliances and utensils, and two bedrooms.

On the 1st floor, accessible only by stairs, there are four bedrooms and a living room also with a fireplace.

At this rural tourism house, smoking is not allowed, but we have a space reserved for this purpose.

Rooms

Alcaide : Legend tells of an auspicious and insightful mayor who strategically deceived the enemy and saved the lands of Sortelha from being taken over by the Moors.

Cabeca da Velha : The legend refers to a giant, “owner” of the lands of Sortelha, his brother and his wife with witchcraft powers that would lead to the petrification of two young people in love.

Chaves : The legend tells us about the defense of the assets of a village, which, according to history, gave rise to the name Dirão da Rua, at the foot of Monte de S. Cornélio!

Beijo Eterno : The most romantic legend that characterizes the village tells of a forbidden love between the daughter of  a mayor and a Moorish prince who commanded the siege of Sortelha.

Vento que Soa : The legend tells the story of secrets that are secrets… just open your mouth and there they go,  scattered by the blowing wind!

Cofre : The legend tells us of a valuable treasure of gold coins and objects, kept in a hidden safe in the torch tower inside the wall of Sortelha!

The Outside

The house has free Wi-Fi access, but it is outside that you will be most connected, enjoying the landscape and the 6,000 square meters of land, with vegetable gardens, fruit trees, trellises, a fountain and shaded gardens. Refresh yourself in the seasonal swimming pool, with a solarium area and parasols. Adjacent to the kitchen, you will find the terrace of about 30 m2, barbecue, garden table and chairs. To the north of the house, with access from the living room on the ground floor, go to the garden and relax in the shade of a wisteria tree.

Payment Policy
Payment Policies: 25% , Minimum Stay: 1 night and in the summer from July 1st to December 18th we only rent for the complete House with the 6 rooms for 12 to 16 people maximum., Prices (Low Season): 70 euros per room per night with breakfast included (Regional breakfast - Local products - Continental), Prices (High Season): 85 euros per room and per night with a minimum stay of 3 nights

The house is incredible and the owners make you feel so welcome. There are stunning walks all around and the medieval village is breathtaking. Kitchen access gives you food freedom. The owners make you feel like you are part of their family. Grandma's cake is the stuff dreams are made of. It's outrageously good value and I would definitely return.

Beautiful house is an beautiful location. Open fire roaring for us on arrival. Lovely breakfast. Staff were so friendly. The medieval village is stunning!

The house, pool and garden were lovely. The old house has been beautifully restored. Sortelha is charming and authentic. The owner and her son were friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable stay. As our Portuguese is not good they even rang the restaurant and booked a table for us. It is better than a hotel. We were able to use the well-equipped kitchen and store our drinks and food in the fridge. Breakfast was great, fresh fruits, cheese, meats, bread rolls, homemade jams and cake. Our friends are keen birdwatchers and they were so happy to see so many in this area.

The renovated old house is so beautiful, the architecture and the decoration are so charming. The breakfast had homemade delicacies like jam and cake, all delicious. And we had a such nice talk with Dona Lurdes. The medieval village is stunning!

The staff answered all questions and went out of the way to fulfill any needs that I had, including travel needs. The breakfast was exceptional and extensive. I extended my visit because of the National Holiday and they provided me with the same kindness and respect with no compromise. They even provided laundry services.

My friends and I were alone in the whole house and it was an amazing experience! We had everything what we needed: clean rooms with nice view, a comfort barbecue zone, a pool with beautiful lawn area. We had a great time there.
